Takht-e Jamshid
(Persepolis)

Takht-e Jamshid, also known as Persepolis, is one of the most beautiful historical and tourist attractions in Shiraz. This complex consists of several palaces built in a tiered arrangement alongside the Marvdasht plain, nestled at the foothills of Mount Rahmat in Fars province, Iran. During historical periods after the Achaemenids, due to the forgotten script and ancient Persian language, the name “Parsa” was lost, and people refer to it as “Takht-e Jamshid” (the throne of King Jamshid). Takht-e Jamshid was once the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire and flourished during the reigns of Darius the Great, Xerxes, and Artaxerxes I. It remained vibrant for approximately 200 years. On the first day of the New Year, delegations from various countries, representing satrapies or provinces, gathered at Takht-e Jamshid with diverse offerings to present to the king. Despite its ruins, archaeologists emphasize the signs of fire and destruction on these ancient remnants. The site is a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site in Iran.
